St James Catholic Primary School Nar Nar Goon

St James Primary School was established in 1975. It is situated in the country town of Nar Nar Goon, population 500, located 65kms east of Melbourne. Access is gained via the Princes Highway to Nar Nar Goon. Nar Nar Goon boasts the advantage of being close to the urban growth corridor while still enjoying the positive communal aspects that country town life can bring. St James is a modern, well equipped school situated on 5 acres overlooking the township. The complex consists of refurbished classrooms with networked computers, library, art room, gathering space, teachers and specialist workrooms and administration area. Large playing areas are shaded by established trees and the playground includes an oval and both netball and basketball courts. The economy of the area is based on agriculture: dairying, beef cattle, vegetables and also light industry. Many people are employed locally or commute to Melbourne or the growth corridor for employment. St James is well serviced by several bus routes and many children take advantage of this free travel. Most other children commute by car or bicycle. The school draws students from Nar Nar Goon, Maryknoll, Cora Lynn and fringes of Pakenham.
